Programme Description

The main aim of the programme is to promote education in the biological sciences and to equip students with the scientific knowledge required for teaching.

The specific objectives of the programme are to:

Produce biological science teachers for Junior and Senior High Schools.
Prepare students for graduate training in the biological sciences
Upgrade the skills and competence of environmental and public health practitioners and related professionals to enable them to better offer the needed services in their sectors.

Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ holders
Diploma holders
Environmental and Public health workers
All who wish to be trained in biological sciences and have the requisite qualification

Entry Requirements

Applicants must possess any of the following qualifications:

A. SSSCE/WASSCE Certificate Holders

Credit passes inEnglish Language, Mathematics and IntegratedScience and Biology
Credit passes in Biology and two(2)of the following subjects; Chemistry, General Agriculture,Physics and Elective Mathematics

B. Mature Applicants

Must be at least 25 years by 1^st August of the year of application.
Must hold

(a) Teachers Certificate ‘A’ or

(b) SSSCE/WASSCE Certificate or Certificate of Professional training from a recognized institution

Must pass the UEW Entrance Examination.

C. Diploma Holders

Must possess a Diploma or its equivalent in a relevant discipline from a recognized institution
Must pass the UEW Entrance Examination

Applicants with the relevant background will be placed in the second year.

D. Ordinary and Advanced Level Certificates

Five (5) credits at GCE ‘O’ Level Examinationincluding English, Mathematics and at least one other science subject and
At least two(2) pass in any Relevant subject in the Advanced Level Examination
