SHORT COURSES IN WASH

The Department of Environmental Health and Sanitation Education at the Asante Mampong Campus of the University of Education, Winneba, in collaboration with MDF Training and Consultancy West Africa is organizing short courses on WASH Monitoring and Evaluation.

A.   WASH Behaviour Change Communication

TRAINING

Registration deadline: 15th August, 2019

Training date: 2nd September, 2019 to 6th September, 2019

THE RATIONALE FOR BEHAVIOUR CHANGE AND COMMUNICATION

Understanding exactly what prevents or enables people to adopt or defy new behaviors can be a difficult task. This is however very crucial in promoting and sustaining positive behavior change. Particularly in the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector, behavior change is necessary to ensure that interventions in terms of latrine provision, environmental cleanliness and hygiene promotion can achieve the desired results sustainably. This requires a systematic and tailored approach to identify the target group, assess the gap between the prevailing and desired conditions and effectively communicate the needed change through appropriate media.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course will enable participants to effectively plan, develop, pre-test, implement and evaluate behaviour change communication programmes with a focus on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene. The course is designed to equip WASH professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to design, implement, and evaluate effective behaviour change communication interventions. Participants will be taken through an engaging programme using delivery methods including discussion, videos, case studies, lectures and group work.

 

TARGET GROUP

Project Managers, Project Officers, Project Assistants, Quality Assurance Officers, Administrators, Human Resources and Finance officers in the WASH sector (Water Company Ltd, Environmental Health workers in the MMDA’s, Hospitals and other organizations, Community Water and Sanitation Agency, SHEP Coordinators in the Ghana Education Service under Ministry of Education, Waste Management Departments, NGO’s and Private Companies, Graduates from EHSE Dept. of UEW and other graduates who are working in related fields)

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

B.   WASH Entrepreneurship

THE RATIONALE FOR WASH ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Background

The short course targets participants of diverse background including those working in the Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector and other areas of the economy. The fundamental qualification is that a person desires to be or is already an entrepreneur. The course is designed to equip participants with the relevant knowledge, skills, competence and tools for creating Business Empire in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in a fast changing and challenging world. The course is particularly relevant and tailor-made to harness potentials that would solve the enormous WASH problems and challenges in Ghana and developing countries. The course is structured into modules with peer review participation. Participants will have the opportunity to directly interact with experienced facilitators coupled with a conducive serene environment.

THE RATIONALE FOR MONITORING AND EVALUATION

When monitoring and evaluation is done and applied correctly, it strengthens the basis for management of results i.e. timely achievements of set objectives, adherence to policy regulations and guidelines for effectiveness and efficiency, foster learning and knowledge management in the organization especially in the WASH sector.

 

TARGET GROUP

  6. Use M&E tools for qualitative and quantitative data analysis
