INTRODUCTION

The Faculty of Science Education currently has nine academic departments and two service units. The two service units are the Food Production Unit and the Clothing Pro- duction Unit. The Faculty aims at equipping its graduates with the necessary academic proficiency and professional competence in teaching. The Departments of the Faculty include:

INTRODUCTION

The Faculty of Educational Studies was established in 1994 to be at the fore front for the professionalization of graduates from the University of Education, Winneba.

Ghanaian Languages Education

The Faculty of Ghanaian Languages Education at the University of Education, Winneba. Ajumako Campus is one of the academic units established within the University. The Faculty offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. Our mandate is to provide quality language education through teaching, research and dissemination of research findings. Currently, the faculty consists of four departments: Akan-Nzema Education, Ewe Education, Ga-Dangme Education and Gur-Gonja Education.

Aajumako Campus host the College of Languages Education. It currently has only one faculty, the Faculty of Languages Education.

The Mampong Campus of the University of Education, Winneba host the College of Agriculture Education. It is located 51 kilometres to the north-east of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

The following Faculties are at the campus:

  • Faculty of Agriculture Education
  • Faculty of Science and Environment Education

Kumasi campus host the College of Technology Education and is located 320 Kimlometres from Winneba and 280 Kilometres north of Accra.

The campus hosts the following faculties:

  • Faculty of Education and Communication Science

The Winneba Campus is the main campus of the University of Education, Winneba. It has three sub-campuses: the North, Central and South Campuses.The central Administration is currently located at the North Campus.

IERIS holds public lecture on open distance and e-learning in tertiary institutions

The Institute for Educational Research and Innovation Studies (IERIS) has organised a public lecture on “Open Distance and eLearning in Tertiary Institutions” at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre on 1st August, 2016.

Introducing participants to the work of the Commonwealth of Learning, the President and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Asha Singh Kanwar who was the guest speaker at the lecture said that the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) is an intergovernmental organisation established by Commonwealth Heads of Government.

The Broader Impact of the PHEA ETI at University of Education, Winneba: Building Capacity

PHEA Study

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) was established in 1992 as a university college that brought together seven training colleges under one roof. Initially the University of Cape Coast acted as a ‘mentor’, overseeing UEW’s academic programmes. In 2004, UEW was upgraded to a fully fledged, autonomous university.

UEW honoured with the platinum award for best practices

At a ceremony held in Belgium (Brussels) on Saturday 4th June 2016, the University of Education, Winneba was honoured by the European Society for Quality and Research with the Platinum Award for Best Practices.

The award ceremony brought together representatives from institutions and organisations from across the length and breadth of the globe (Asia, Europe, Africa, America and Australia). Institutions were assessed for outstanding commitment, support and results in quality management strategies.
