Sabbatical Leave, Season of Renewal

Sabbatical leave is defined as a period of time in which a person does not report to his regular job but remains employed with that company. It is a period of paid leave from work given periodically for study or travel. At the University, faculty members often use the period for independent research, writing, etc.

Assoc. Prof. Ephraim Avea Nsoh appointed as Principal of the College of Languages Education

Assoc. Prof. Ephraim Avea Nsoh has been appointed as Principal of the College of Languages Education, University of Education, Winneba. The appointment which is for a contract period of four years takes effect from October 1, 2016.

Assoc. Prof. Ephraim Avea Nsoh started his career at UCEW in 1993 as a part-time tutor.  Two years later, he attained status of a full-time employee. By dint of hard work, he rose to the rank of an Associate Professor in 2012. Assoc. Prof. Nsoh was employed at the then Department of Ghanaian Languages Education.

UEW co-operative credit union ushers in new board members

The Co-operative Credit Union of the University of Education, Winneba has sworn in its newly elected board members on Thursday, 22nd September, 2016. The 16th Annual General Meeting held under the theme, ‘20 Years of Quality Service: Member Commitment a Key to Sustainability’ was used to enlighten members of the Union on the new reforms relating to the operations of the Credit Union as stipulated by the Bank of Ghana and to outdoor the new board members.

Department of Economics holds Educational Seminar

A departmental research seminar has been organised for staff and students of the Department of Economics Education on 23rd September, 2016 at the Faculty Block.

Speaking on the theme “Natural Resource Governance”, the Director of Research at the African Center for Economic Transformation (ACET), Prof. Joe Amoako -Tuffour, enlightened the audience on how best the available natural resources can be put to maximum use.

No need to cut corners to make money as an insurance against retirement.

Dr. Asonaba Kofi Addision has urged workers at the University of Education, Winneba to work hard and not cut corners to make money as a surety against their retirement.

Speaking on behalf of retirees at a send-off party organized by the University for its 2016 batch of retirees, he observed that retirement itself is widely presumed to be the golden years of every worker. This is where an individual who has contributed his quota to the society deserves all the reverence and respect by society.

Madam Kutum Comfort Madah elected as Vice-President of Ghana Home Economics Association

The Head of Department of Home Economics Education, UEW, Ms. Kutum Comfort Madah has been elected the Vice-President of the Ghana Home Economics Association. The event which took place at the 42nd Annual General Meeting of the Association (GHEA) held at the All Nations University College in Koforidua in the Eastern Region of Ghana was on the theme “Home Economics Literacy: Skills for Families and Consumers”. It was held from 18th- 20th August, 2016.

UEW receives International Star Award for Quality

The University of Education, Winneba has been honoured with the International Star Award for Quality by BID - Business initiative Directions in Geneva on 17th September, 2016.

The event which was designed to recognise the outstanding contributions of organisations and individuals in ensuring quality benchmarks in their institutional structures and systems was successfully held to commend and celebrate their achievements. The Award winning institutions, on receiving the award, commit themselves to continuous improvement and quality in their organisations.

Teaching practice contributing to effective teacher preparation at the University of Education, Winneba

Student Practicum

In a study on Pre-service teachers’ Perception of the Mentorship and Supervision Experience during Student Internship programme in Ghana by Dr. James Awuni Azure, Prof. Jophus Anamuah-Mensah and Prof. Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw,  student interns were reported to have observed that, teaching practice organise for them as part of their degree requirement helps them to develop pedagogical knowledge, confidence and classroom management skills for teaching in the classroom.

School of Graduate Studies

The School of Graduate Studies was established in the 1999/2000 academic year. The aim of Management in establishing the School of Graduate Studies was to address the academic manpower requirements of some selected Departments.

In 1996, the University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Brockport University of New York (Suny Brockport).

The University of Education, Winneba has concluded a pact with the Mampong College of Technical Education as part of the processes to aid the Colleges of Education in a smooth transition into tertiary status. “the Colleges of Education are our cherished partners in ensuring quality teacher education, training and quality education delivery in Ghana and beyond” the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mawutor Avoke said this in his welcome address to the representatives of the Mampong College of Technical Education at a ceremony held in the council chamber on Wednesday 14th September, 2016.
