UEW Governing Council Congratulates Prof. Andrews Ofori-Birikorang

The Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) at an emergency meeting in Accra, yesterday, 6th October 2021, among other things congratulated Prof. Andrews Ofori-Birikorang on his assumption of office as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University following the end of term and retirement of Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni since 30th September 2021.

Organisation of High-Level Interactive Parliamentary Seminar of the ECOWAS Parliament

The ECOWAS Parliament has scheduled to convene its Second Extraordinary Session from 18th to 22nd October, 2021 in Winneba. The Office of the President has notified the University accordingly.

The Organizers of the Extraordinary Session intend to use Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre at the University of Education, Winneba for the Opening Ceremony and the Interactive Parliamentary Seminar.

HR bids Farewell to 27 Retirees

The Division of Human Resource (HR) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has organised a colourful send-off party for 27 staff, who are transiting from active service of the University this year.  

The event took place at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre Car Park, North Campus, Winneba on Thursday, 30th September, 2021.

Extension of Closing Dates for the Sale of Regular Admission Application Forms

It is announced for the information of all prospective applicants that the closing dates for the sale of Regular Admission Application forms have been extended as follows:

  1. Regular Direct Application Forms: Tuesday, 30th November, 2021
  2. Regular Mature Application Forms: Monday, 22nd November, 2021.
  3. Regular Post-Diploma Application Forms: Tuesday, 30th November, 2021
  4. Postgraduate Regular and Distance: Tuesday, 30th November, 2021

Registration of Course Offerings on ITS ERP | Sandwich Students

All sandwich students are to note that Registration of courses on the UEW ITS ERP will commence on Monday 11th October, 2021 at 12 noon.

In view of this, students are requested to hold themselves in readiness for this exercise.

Anyone who attempts to register before the said date would receive an error message indicating that registration is inactive.

Call for Application - Phd Fellowship at the University of Jyvaskyla

Applications are invited from qualified PhD candidates for a three to four-month fellowship (September – December 2021) tenable at the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland.

1. Eligibility
Applicant must

  • Be a Ghanaian on a PhD programme in UEW
  • Have successfully completed their coursework
  • Have their thesis proposal being education-related

It will be expected that applicants possess a valid passport. Teaching staff of UEW have a higher advantage.

UEW Management Introduces Interim Vice-Chancellor to Effutu Omanhene

Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has today, Tuesday, 5th October, 2021, paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Council, Neenyi Ghartey VII, to introduce to him, the interim Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang. 

Management, per the customs of the Ghanaian culture, ought to introduce the Ag. Vice-Chancellor to the Effutu Omanhene first before other stakeholder institutions of the University hence, the visit to the Simpa Palace today.

Don’t Transfer Fear for Maths to Children - Lecturer Advises Parents

A former Dean of the Faculty of Science Education of the University of Education, Winneba, Prof. Samuel Kwasi Asiedu-Addo, has advised parents not to transfer their fear of Mathematics to their children through their words.

He said most parents who had difficulty with Mathematics while in school tend to describe the subject with negative words thus involuntarily instilling the fear of the subject into their children.

UEW Formalises Agreement to Train Military Officers

Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) and a delegation from the General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Council Chamber of UEW on Tuesday, 28th September, 2021. 

The MoU gives UEW the green light to establish a Study Centre at the Ghana Military Academy and Training School, Accra-Teshie, to train military officers for their professional and personal development.

Notice to Act as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba | Professor Andy Ofori-Birikorang

Professor Andy Ofori-Birikorang has been officially notified to act as Vice-Chancellor until the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.  His mandate takes effect from today, 1st October, 2021.

The tenure of Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni officially ended on 30th September, 2021. Pursuant to Section 14 (2)(b) of the University of Education, Winneba Act, 2004 (Act 672) and Statute (10(21) of UEW Statutes (2020), Professor Andy Ofori-Birikorang, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba is mandated to act as Vice-Chancellor of the University.
