UEW receives International Star Award for Quality

The University of Education, Winneba has been honoured with the International Star Award for Quality by BID - Business initiative Directions in Geneva on 17th September, 2016.

The event which was designed to recognise the outstanding contributions of organisations and individuals in ensuring quality benchmarks in their institutional structures and systems was successfully held to commend and celebrate their achievements. The Award winning institutions, on receiving the award, commit themselves to continuous improvement and quality in their organisations.

Kyonggi University Partners UEW to Promote Education

The Kyonggi University (KGU) of Korea has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

The agreement which became effective on 30th June, 2016, shall continue after (5) years, unless there is a written notice of abrogation from either parties.

Welcome to the University of Education, Winneba

The University of Education, Winneba started with the merger of seven diploma awarding colleges into a University College as a result of a national reform in the tertiary education sector in 1987. The University which started with a student population of 1,889 in 1992 presently boasts of well over 57, 000 students pursuing various degrees, diplomas and certificates programmes.

Teaching practice contributing to effective teacher preparation at the University of Education, Winneba

In a study on Pre-service teachers’ Perception of the Mentorship and Supervision Experience during Student Internship programme in Ghana by Dr. James Awuni Azure, Prof. Jophus Anamuah-Mensah and Prof. Akwasi Asabere-Ameyaw, student interns were reported to have observed that, teaching practice organise for them as part of their degree requirement helps them to develop pedagogical knowledge, confidence and classroom management skills for teaching in the classroom.

UEW signs MOU with Mampong College of Technical Education

The University of Education, Winneba has concluded a pact with the Mampong College of Technical Education as part of the processes to aid the Colleges of Education in a smooth transition into tertiary status. “the Colleges of Education are our cherished partners in ensuring quality teacher education, training and quality education delivery in Ghana and beyond” the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mawutor Avoke said this in his welcome address to the representatives of the Mampong College of Technical Education at a ceremony held in the council chamber on Wednesday 14th September, 2016.

Use of local materials as make-up kits for stage and film productions

Makeup is a key element in the transformation of the actor to enhance the illusion that the actor has become the character. However, owing to the unavailability of standard makeup kits on the market, both stage and screen makeup artist are often handicapped in their attempts to create the desired illusion.

UEW Library has introduced off-campus access to its e-resources for students and staff. To access any University Library’s e- Resources (such as JSTOR, Emerald etc.) you need to be identified as a UEW student or staff to have free access.

Department of Home Economics Interacts with Students

As part of the annual scheduled activities of the Department of Home Economics, an interactive session has been held for students to help them acclimatize to the 2016/17 academic year. The interaction which was held on 7th September, 2016 at the forecourt of the department building brought together 500 students from both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Effect of parental support on educational achievement of the girl child in the Simpa fishing community

Girls were basically regarded as homemakers and people perceived the kitchen as the most suitable place for the girl but some parents over exaggerate this situation. In view of this, parents who are not academically and financially endowed prefer to sponsor their sons in neglect of their daughters. They are of the pessimistic view that girls could easily get pregnant along the line and drop out of school, hence, denying their girls from schooling. - Benedicta Ahomah Bioh, UEW Home Economics Department

UEW holds Pre-Academic Orientation for Fresh Students

A one week pre–intensive academic orientation programme to welcome fresh students has commenced at the Winneba campus of the University of Education, Winneba.

The orientation has been scheduled from Wednesday, 24th August to Friday, 2nd September, 2016. The eight day rigorous programme has various facilitators presenting on many vital topics to enlighten students on all areas pertaining to their stay on campus.
