UEW Lecturers Update Effutu Municipality STEM Teachers

Three lecturers in the Faculty of Science Education (FSE), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), have held a training workshop to apprise Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) teachers in selected basic schools of the Effutu Municipality.

The training was part of a project being carried out by the three FSE members with support from the American Chemical Society (ACS) to organise a chemistry festival aimed at demystifying the teaching and learning of chemistry for basic and Junior High School (JHS) students.

UEW Lecturer Joins Organising Team for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

A lecturer at the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports (HPERS), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Dr. Ernest Yeboah Acheampong, has been selected as part of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Volunteer Team to support in delivering a successful and historic first ever World Cup to be hosted in the Middle East.

The tournament kicks off from Sunday, 20th November, 2022, to Sunday, 18th December, 2022. It is being held for the first time outside the usual June-July window because of Qatar's intense summer heat and humidity.

UEW Dominating 2022 GUSA Games

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has leapfrogged 13 other public universities in Ghana, to cement its position at the summit of the medal table for the 27th edition of the ongoing Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) games. 

The games are being hosted by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi.

As of 17th November, 2022, UEW had hauled a total of 60 medals made of 22 gold, 22 silver and 16 bronze medals respectively.

Gomoa West District Pursues Collaborative Links with UEW

A delegation from Gomoa Tarkwa in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region of Ghana, has paid a courtesy call on the Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), to pursue collaborative links with the university. 

The leader of the delegation, Hon. Bismark Baisie Nkum, disclosed the district’s readiness to make available 60 acres of land to the university for setting up a campus in the Gomoa West vicinity.

Department of Agricultural Science Interacts with Industry Players

The Department of Agricultural Science Education, University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has held a stakeholder engagement with directors of agriculture from districts in the Central Region to solicit inputs to deliver tailor-made programmes.  

The meeting discussed some challenging issues in agriculture and ways to fashion customised programmes to solve problems both in animal and crop production. There was also a discourse on the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UEW and the districts in the areas of research and student internship.

UEW GUSA Contingent Receives Support

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) contingents for the 27th Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) games have received assorted items from the executive of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG-UEW) and Dr. Evans Asante, a University Council member, to spur on the contingent for greater laurels at the games.

The contingent received 31 packs of mineral water and eight cartons of plastic Malta Guinness and Beta Malt from UTAG-UEW as well as 15 packs of bottled water, five cartons of Rush energy drinks and five packs of toilet rolls from Dr. Evans Asante.

ODSA Organises Orientation for Danish Students

The Office of the Dean of Student Affairs (ODSA), in collaboration with the Centre for International Programmes (CIP), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has held a one-day Intensive Pre-academic Orientation Programme (IPOP), for six international students to help them navigate their six-week educational expedition at UEW.

The students, from the University College of Northern Denmark and the University College Copenhagen, Denmark, are at UEW in fulfilment of the terms of the student exchange cooperation between UEW and the aforementioned institutions.
