Overview:
The University College of Management Studies (UCOMS) began in 1974 when it was founded as a professional tutorial college called Feds Career College. Feds Career College was dedicated to the preparation of supervisory level professionals in the areas of Accountancy, Marketing, Export Marketing, Sales Management, Advertising, Public Relations, and Journalism. These programmes were heavily subscribed, providing the graduands of the College with gainful employment in reputable national and international organizations.
On 1st June, 1977, the name of the College was changed to the Institute of Management Studies (IMS) when it became a recognized Tutorial College for the preparation of students for United Kingdom Professional Qualifications in Marketing (Chartered Institute of Marketing {CIM}, Accounting (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants {ACCA}), and Purchasing and Supply (Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply {CIPS}). Since 1978, students have been presented annually for the United Kingdom external examinations in these professional fields.
IMS was accredited by the National Accreditation Board as a Tertiary Tutorial College in 1998, and in 2006 the status of IMS was changed by incorporation to the current University College of Management Studies (UCOMS) enabling it to offer degree programmes in Business Administration with specializations in Accounting, Banking and Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing, and Procurement and Supply Chain Management. The University College now runs two parallel programmes which are the professional and degree programmes, and students may enroll in any of the two. In addition, the University College also offers the Diploma in Business Administration awarded by National Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training and the Diploma of the Institute of Commercial Management (ICM), an Examination Body of the United Kingdom for students with lower qualifications.
We take great pride in our students, both past and present, who make UCOMS a truly great University College. With a new Strategic Plan in place, UCOMS is poised at cementing its position as a top-notch University College in Ghana.
