“UEW has many Great Features to Offer Ghana” – Ag. Vice-Chancellor

The Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni has said that the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has many great features to offer Ghana and beyond in spite of its challenges.

He pointed out that stiff competition from tertiary institutions running programmes in Education, Business, Technical/Vocational Education; dwindling Government subventions, inadequate qualified and experienced academic and administrative staff; exorbitant staff development programmes and others were key challenges facing UEW.

Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni however hinted that amidst all those challenges, UEW was advantaged comparatively for being predominantly (92/8) Teacher Education University in Ghana, the only University with professional Teachers as its Academic Staff, the pace-setters in Distance Education (DE) in Ghana, the University with abundant land at constituent campuses and some DE Centres and eventually the University with strong capacity for Internally Generated Funds (IGF) through Sandwich, Evening and DE programmes.

He therefore, urged Academic Heads to work more closely together, support each other and do everything possible to make UEW the best it could be. He said, “we must continue to be proud of UEW; after all, this is where we live and receive our sustenance. We can make it better with these many great features to affect Ghana and beyond”.

Some Academic Heads at the Orientation

The Ag. Vice-Chancellor said this on Wednesday, 22nd August, 2018 at Manna Heights Hotel during a day’s Orientation for Deans, Directors and Heads of Department organised by the Division of Human Resource.

Speaking on the topic “Keeping Faith with Our Vision and Mission”, Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni charged Academics Heads to be committed to high academic standards in research and teaching; rebrand and showcase UEW nationally and globally; have pragmatic and purposeful administrative systems; introduce innovative, market-driven programmes; and adhere to quality assurance/best practices.

“Rebranding! Rebranding!! Very important to rebrand especially when everybody else is doing education, we must rebrand. Have we thought about engaging marketing professionals to support in giving a face-lift to our Departments/Faculties? Let us fight, advertise and market for our University.” The Ag. Vice-Chancellor said to the Academic Heads.

He admonished them to consider creating documentaries on their outfits for advertisements, meet the press or make radio/TV appearances, create/expand collaboration with Ministry of Education, National Council for Teacher Education, Ghana Education Service, Ghana National Association of Teachers and Graduate Association of Ghana to keep faith with UEW’s Vision and Mission.
