Central Regional Police Commander Calls on UEW Management

Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), on Monday, 11th October, 2021, received a four-member delegation from the Ghana Police Service of the Central Regional Command at the Council Chamber of the University.
The delegation, led by the Central Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), K. Antwi Tabi, was at the University to survey the community and in general, the Effutu township in preparation for the hosting of the decentralised ECOWAS parliament from Wednesday, 13th to Friday, 22nd October, 2021. DCOP, Antwi Tabi also used the opportunity to officially introduce himself to the Management of UEW as the new Regional Commander.

“I wanted to come and greet the University Management and also introduce myself formally as the new Regional Commander. I think the opportunity has coincided with this very important meeting of the sub-region here. So, that is why we are here this afternoon to assess this place and I think I find it to be a wonderful set-up in the University. I want to congratulate the University Management and the Council for such a beautiful edifice and I know they are going to have a wonderful conference,” he affirmed.
DCOP, Antwi Tabi advanced that “the Central Region can proudly boast of two of the nation’s top public universities and it is just apt that one of these universities, being the University of Education, Winneba, is going to host this important summit of the leaders of the West African sub-region and as a result, we want to assure you that we will ensure that security is top-notch”.
“Even after this programme, we feel that you deserve better and so I am here to also find out if apart from the summit you have some special security needs; you will let my Divisional Commander know and I will do all that I can to support you,” he guaranteed.
The Ag. Vice-Chancellor of UEW, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang indicated UEW Management’s cordial and smooth working relationship with the Ghana Police Service for the past years adding, “now that you are in the chair we know surely that the relationship will move in that direction”.

Prof. Ofori-Birikorang commended the Ghana Police Service for creating another Division in the Effutu Municipality to strengthen security.
“We are also grateful that you are here to ensure that for the upcoming event, security is well provided. We know that as an institution even if we are in the margin, if something happens here, the name of the University will be there, chaos at UEW and already UEW has not been in the news for all the good reasons even though we have done some very wonderful things.
“And so, we are hopeful that your men and women would help us to maintain a very smooth and harmonious atmosphere for the next ten days. Once again thank you for coming over and we will continue to work for the betterment of mother Ghana,” he stated.

The Registrar of UEW, Surv. Paul Osei Barima Esq., who welcomed the delegation, showed them all the syndicate rooms and places UEW has made available for the delegates to congregate. “So, my DCOP, we are on duty call. We are actually doing what is expected of us and we are preparing to help this function come off fruitfully.”
Other members of the Ghana Police Service delegation were Chief Superintendent, Samuel Asiedu Okanta; Chief Superintendent, Jeffery Darko; and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Gabriel Kyei-Yeboah.
