CICE-2019: UEW Dean wins Best Full Paper Award
The Dean, Faculty of Science Education (FSE) of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Prof. Ruby Hanson, has won the Best Full Paper award at the 2019 Canada International Conference on Education (CICE).
The conference which took place from Monday, 24th June to Thursday, 27th June, 2019 at the University of Toronto, Mississauga, sought to promote collaborative excellence between academicians and professionals in Education and was attended by over 200 participants.
CICE is an internationally acclaimed conference dedicated to the advancement of the theory and practices in education. The aim of CICE is to provide an opportunity for academicians and professionals from various educational fields with cross-disciplinary interest to bridge the knowledge gap, promote research and the evolution of pedagogy.
As part of the participation requirements, research papers that encompass conceptual analysis, design implementation and performance evaluation are invited. All the accepted papers then appear in the proceedings and modified versions of selected papers are published in special issues peer reviewed journals.
Prof. Ruby Hanson who presented a paper on the topic “An lluminative Evaluation of the Impact of Two-tier Diagnostic Instruments on Undergraduate Chemistry Teacher Trainees’ Conception,” was selected as the Best Full Paper award winner after the conference.
Congratulating Prof. Ruby Hanson on her nomination, the CICE-2019 Steering Committee Chair, Prof. Charles Shoniregun stated “on behalf of the CICE-2019, we would like to thank you for your participation. Your contribution is well-appreciated and we hope that the CICE-2019 gave you the exposure and the opportunity to meet other leading researchers from various countries; a big congratulations to our Best Paper, Best Extended Abstract and Best Poster award winners”.
According to Prof. Shoniregun, Prof. Ruby Hanson of UEW won the Best Full Paper award while the Extended Abstract award was presented to two authors namely Hanin Alahmadi and Sirous Tabrizi both from University of Windsor, Canada. Their abstract was on the topic “School Budgeting Process: The Way Toward Effective Budget Allocation and Spending”. The Poster award went to Chian Hwey Miin of Nanyang Polytechnic, School of Chemical and Life Sciences, Singapore. The awardee wrote on the topic “Targeting Misconceptions: Socratic Questioning in Chemical Engineering”.
In an interview with Prof. Ruby Hanson, she expressed excitement about her nomination. “I knew I had worked very hard; I always try to achieve the best but then it came as a surprise that mine should be noted as the best. The nomination alone makes me excited.”
She encouraged her colleagues not to give up writing articles and journals.
Brief Profile of Prof. Ruby Hanson
Ruby Hanson is an Associate Professor of Chemistry Education and the Dean of the Faculty of Science Education in the University of Education, Winneba – the leading teacher education institute in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Professor Ruby Hanson obtained her Ph.D (Chemistry Education) from the University of Education. She holds an M.Phil (Analytical and Environmental Chemistry) from the University of Cape Coast, where she carried out research in chemical toxicology. She also holds a Certificate degree in Designing & Facilitating E-Learning from the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand, as well as certificates from the Utrecht and Vrije Universiteit in the Netherlands in Development and Research in Science and Mathematics Education. She heads a Science Team that is spearheading a revolutionary national curriculum transformation.
Ruby Hanson’s current researches focus on finding out students’ conceptual challenges and remediating them through innovative and interactive strategies. Development of e-courseware, the use of micro science equipment for conceptual labs, and the preparation of pre-service science teachers for teaching are her current projects.
Professor Ruby Hanson is a recipient of a District Best Teacher Award as well as many other awards at both local and international conferences and workshops where she has made scholarly presentations.
