Speaking at the 2019 Sandwich Orientation for fresh Diploma/Post Diploma and TVET undergraduate students at COLTEK on July 27, 2019, Dr. Danso reminded the public of the fact that UEW maintains a high standing as an astute and reputable institution that boasts of the best in terms of teaching and non-teaching staff.

“We operate in strict compliance with national standards and requirements in respect of required qualification for admission, accreditation for programmes and courses in addition to the fact that our certificate is widely accepted,” he stressed.

He, therefore, assured the public and particularly, the fresh students that, “the same requirements for admission into any of our regular programmes and admission selection processes was used for you; lecturers teaching our regular students will teach you; the content for our regular programmes are same for you.”

He added that as students, it was necessary for them to commit to hardwork while on the programme so that they could assimilate enough and go into the working industry as good ambassadors of UEW and Ghana as a whole.

For his part, the Principal of COLTEK, Prof. Frederick Kwaku Sarfo assured the fresh students that they made a right choice to opt for UEW and informed them that COLTEK had been given an exclusive national mandate to train TVET teachers for all technical and vocational institutions in the country.

He said UEW has the capacity and capability to groom them into high caliber teachers if they would commit themselves to being punctual to lectures, disciplined and make sacrifices since it is common knowledge that Sandwich programmes are highly intensive.

The Principal informed the freshmen and women that as part of their training, UEW would be placing high premium on workplace learning experience gathering, pre and post internship sessions and on-campus teaching practice.

The Head of Department of Interdisciplinary Studies (DIS), Dr. Kofi Yeboah Asiamah said the sandwich programme is ultimately to transform the fresh students into professional teachers.

He reminded the freshmen of the brevity of time for the Sandwich session and explained that that would not lead to the watering down of quality of the programmes since adequate measures had been put in place to ensure that each course received a minimum of nine hours for each week to equal the duration of regular programmes.
