Department of Music Education Holds Retreat to Appraise its Activities
The Department of Music Education has organised a 3-day retreat for all teaching staff of the department. The retreat which was scheduled from 16th August, 2017 to 19th August, 2017 at Birdrock hotel in the Central Region was meant to develop and review the undergraduate programme, ensure staff development and faction out ways of expanding post-graduate programmes and also review existing ones.
In her opening remarks, the Dean of the School of Creative Arts, Professor Mary Priscilla Dzansi-McPalm underscored the significance of holding retreats for staff. In her words, “retreats are not only good for religious people but for academics as well.” She observed that it helps academics to intellectually remain focus on their work and to have some fun moments to relax and review contributions made in their work. She indicated that it was a time to take stock of activities carried out by the department and staff of the department to forge ahead.
She noted that one major challenge to the organisation of such event was sponsorship. She therefore entreated participants to scout for sponsorships from corporate organisations and individuals and also devise other strategies of raising funds to support the organisation of the event in subsequent years.
On his part, the Head of Department for Music Education, Mr. Obed Acquah encouraged all participants to use the occasion to work on their papers, build their research skills and learn from their senior colleagues who were present to facilitate the various segments of the 3-day programme.
Facilitators for the workshop were: Professor Emmanuel James Flolu, Rev. Michael Ohene-Okantah, Dr. Kinsley Ampomah, and Professor Cosmos Kofi Mereku.
