Division of Publications and Communication Educates Staff on Modern Technological Trends in Communication

The Division of Publications and Communication on Thursday, 7th June, 2018 organised a workshop for staff and national service persons at the ICT Computer Lab, South Campus, Winneba. 

The workshop was on the topic “Technology for Interviewing Live Events and Information Collection (Smart tools for Smart Reportage – The use of Android and IOS for Broadcasting)”.

In his Welcome Address and Purpose for the Workshop, the Deputy Registrar and Head, Department of Publishing and Web Development, Mr. Jerry Addison Anyan noted that the major mandate of the Division was to showcase the integrity and dignity of the University in all regard particularly via the use of technology.

“Technology is evolving day in and day out and as a Division whose responsibility is to project the image of the University, there is the need for this workshop to expose staff to innovative means of communicating especially using social media to publicize UEW on its website, social media and other internet enabled platforms.” He said.

There were presentations by Mr. John Edmundson Sackey of the Audio Visual Unit and Mr. Lord Nelson Addo Ofori of the Department of Publishing and Web Development.

In his presentation, Senior Technician,  John Edmundson Sackey took participants through “Smart Reporter (Branding your Identity, Social Media Profiling, Dress Code and Integrity, Workflow, Smart Tool and UEW Logo), Smart Reporting Workflow (Workflow for Broadcasting at UEW, Hand on, Live Broadcasting, Practical Session, Live Text and Pictures or snap chat and Light for Video) and Smart Tool Hands on (Conversion Kin Master, Video to Text, Speech to Text, Scam to Text, Audio Editing to Text, Audio to Text and Video to Photo)”.

Principal Designer, Lord Ofori spoke on the topic “Using Right Dimensions for Homepage Banner on UEW Website”. The topic introduced participants to how to resize or create the right size banner for UEW website, applications or software for resizing UEW homepage banner, orientation of the image (landscape) and the file size (at most the image size should be one megabyte).

In attendance were Senior Assistant Registrar and Head of University Relations Office and Media, Ms. Obaapanyin Oforiwaa Adu; Assistant Registrar Mr. Titus Nii Aryeetey; Ag. Coordinator, Radio Windy Bay, Mr. Jones Appiah Kubi; representatives from Kumasi, Asante-Mampong and Ajumako Campuses; staff and national service personnel of the Division.
