"A doctor's mistake is buried in the soil. A teacher's mistake lives on"

The head of the National Centre for Research into Basic Education, Dr. Eric Ananga said this at a workshop organised by the Ghana Education Service (GES) in Accra on the draft National Teacher Education Curriculum Framework.

The workshop was organised with support from one Transforming Teacher Education and Learning (T-TEL) for District Directors of Education and Leaders of Colleges of Education in Ghana, who are strategically involved in Initial Teacher Preparation through school level mentorship to teacher trainees, to seek their contribution to and endorsement of the draft Teacher Education Curriculum Framework.

The key focus of the Curriculum Framework is to promote innovation, inclusion and best practice aimed at improving the quality of teacher preparation. The Framework concentrates on the essentials a pre-service teacher education curriculum requires to produce the best teachers. The goal is to support systemic change in teacher education. During the workshop, Teacher Education Experts from the Technical Group presented the Framework.

Participants had the opportunity to discuss the Framework, make suggestions and consider possible implications for teacher education in the districts and at the school level as well as at the Colleges.
