Eight UEW Students Visit University of Hamburg

Eight graduate students from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) are visiting the University of Hamburg (UH) as part of collaborative arrangement between the Department of Psychology & Education, UEW and the Faculty of Education of UH. The students were drawn from the Centre for Human Rights, Conflict & Peace Studies, Departments of History, Political Science, Arts, English, Wood Technology (Kumasi Campus) as well as Psychology & Education.

The two-week visit scheduled for 12^th to 27^th of June, 2019 will afford the graduate students an opportunity to collaborate with students of UH to discuss and implement a collaborative research project that will span one academic year. In March 2020, these collaborators from UH will also visit UEW where they will finalize their project reports and engage in other academic activities.

Paying a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful Broni, the students expressed their appreciation to the Management of the University for creating the opportunity for them to benefit from this exchange. They were particularly grateful to the Vice-Chancellor for his vision of internationalizing UEW, for which this collaboration stands as evidence. They pledged to return to campus after the programme and share their experiences for the benefit of the wider student community.

Speaking at the meeting, Dr. Dandy George Dampson, Head of Psychology & Education Department briefed the Vice-Chancellor on the collaboration with UH, highlighting other potential opportunities that await students and faculty of UEW. He intimated that, whiles the Department of Psychology & Education is the implementing partner of the collaboration with UH, it has been generous to extend this exchange opportunity to students outside of the department, a gesture that ought to be acknowledged and appreciated.  He was grateful to the Management of UEW for its commitment to providing the best opportunities for student learning and professional development of staff.

For his part, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the graduate students for their nomination and urged them to be great ambassadors of UEW in Hamburg. He stressed the need for them to envisage greater opportunities to follow this first visit, and resolve to return to Ghana when the programme ends. He encouraged them to stay focused on their assignments in Hamburg, eschewing needless social activities that could hamper the purpose for which they have been invited.

It will be recalled that in March 2019, UEW signed a memorandum of understanding with UH to collaborate in areas of student and faculty exchange, and research collaboration. A team of faculty has since visited University of Hamburg with exciting news of even more opportunities for greater collaboration.
