Exhibit professionalism in work delivery – Hall Mangers tell Hall Assistants

As part of the responsibilities of the Division of Human Resource to train personnel in the University, a two-day training programme has been organised for Hall Assistants from the various halls of residence of the University to equip them with the necessary skills in service delivery from 10th to 11th October, 2016. The programme which brought together 50 staff from the various halls of residence and a representation from the management of the University sought to enlighten the staff working in the halls on ensuring a high sense of responsibility and professionalism in their work delivery.

The Registrar Dr. C. Y Akwaa-Mensah in his opening address stressed the need for the hall assistants to improve upon their service delivery. He stated that the assistants are the first point of contact and therefore should do their best to market the University in a positive sense by satisfying their clients (students). He also thanked the organizers of the training programme and encouraged all the participants to take the programme very serious so as to learn new things. The Simpa Hall Manager, Mr. Foster Kobina Amoani who presented on the topic “Ethics in Service Delivery” said the hall assistants ought to have adequate knowledge on ethical issues so as to enable them identify ethical situations in the course of their work and also have the skills to overcome such situations when they identify them.

He again informed participants to desist from taking suspicious gifts that could bring the name of the institution to disrepute or issues from clients and should improve their individual character and social rules. The Hall Manageress, Aggrey Hall, Mrs. Deborah Afful presented on the topic “best practices in hall administration.” She stated that globalization has brought about great competition and improved technology; therefore one should inculcate the habit of best practices in delivering services to clients. She added that as a hall assistant, one should endeavour to read more books, journal articles, news, papers, researches, observe others who are doing well and listen to their success stories to improve upon their service delivery to their clients.

The hall manageress for Ghartey Hall, Mrs. Hagar Bampoh Addo stated that the topic on Ensuring Effective Front Desk Management and Administration in the Halls of Residence of UEW is very crucial in the university management and administration and for that matter hall management and administration. She said as a hall assistant, one should have the basic knowledge about the structure of the institution in which they work. She also encouraged the hall assistants to improve upon their communication skills as it formed part of institutional administration and it through communication that administrators can organize the efforts of their subordinates to achieve a common goal. The University Hall Manager, Mr. Francis Teye also presented on the topic Promoting Healthy Work Habits among Hall Assistants at the Halls of Residence. He said that habits can be positive or negative, therefore good habits and positive attitude is critical in everyone’s life especially in one’s work place because positive attitude leads to success and happiness and also helps people to cope more easily with life, and makes it easier to avoid worries and negative thinking. According to him, when positive attitudes combine with good habits the results achieved is good and productivity is enhanced.

The Director of Security Services, Colonel Anthony Kofi Asare and the Ajumako Hall Manageress, Ms. Rebecca Tachie Manson presented on the topics Ensuring Effective Security in UEW Halls and Ensuring Good Sanitation at the Halls of Residence respectively. They implored the hall assistants to do their best to ensure absolute security and proper sanitation in the halls. Participants expressed their sincere gratitude to the facilitators and organizers of the workshop for the laudable initiative aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of staff in the Halls of Residence.
