Faculty of Science and Environment Education Marks African Universities Week

The Dean of the Faculty of Science and Environment Education, University of Education, Winneba (Asante Mampong Campus), Dr. Richard A. Kuffour has announced the Faculty’s readiness to assist Basic School Science Teachers with their science experiments.

He made this announcement during a Mobile Laboratory Session and Environmental Campaigns with three basic schools in the Mampong Municipality to mark the African Universities Week Celebration on Tuesday, November 12, 2019.

 The main objective of the project which was to whip up the interest of pupils in Science saw selected staff and students from the Faculty engaging pupils at St. Andrews Primary School, St. Paul Primary School and St. Monica’s Primary School with some experiments.

The Mobile Laboratory team led by Dr. Janice Abraham engaged in activities like the test for starch in food, production and testing for hydrogen gas, diffusion in water, water cycle and the rectilinear propagation of light for pupils to have practical experiences with these scientific processes.

As part of activities marking the African Universities Week, students and staff from Environmental Health and Sanitation Department embarked on an environmental campaign through the Mampong Campus carrying placards bearing with environmental messages. They used the opportunity to create awareness and educate the University Community on the need to adopt healthy environmental habits as well as took pictures to extend the campaign to social media.

Subsequently, GBC Radio at Jamase had hosted a team from the Faculty made up of the Dean, Dr. Richard A. Kuffour, the Head of Environmental Health and Sanitation Education Department, Assoc. Prof. Dartey and the Faculty HIV/Aids Coordinator, Dr. Yar to educate people in Mampong and its environs on the theme of this year’s African Universities Week Celebration; "Towards a Peaceful and Secure Africa through Quality Higher Education". The team also seized the opportunity to sell the Faculty of Science and Environment Education, programmes on offer at the College of Agriculture Education and the University of Education, Winneba as a whole.
