Faculty of Science and Environment Education Observes World Toilet Day 2019
The Faculty of Science and Environment Education, Asante-Mampong Campus in collaboration with Asanko Gold Ghana Limited has observed the 2019 World Toilet Day at the Esaase Bontefufuom Senior High School in the Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
This year’s World Toilet Day was celebrated under the theme “Clean hands for all; Living no one behind”. The day has been earmarked to promote health and education through hand hygiene and behaviour change.
The programme was attended by leaders of the traditional area, workers and sector managers of Asanko Gold Ghana Limited, the media, students and teachers of all basic schools in the Bontefufuom area, teachers and students from Esaase Bontetefufuom Senior High Technical School, WASH team as well as members of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Asante-Mampong campus.
The Faculty, for the past three years has been involved in giving Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WaSH) education specifically on hand hygiene and Tippy tap construction in schools through its WaSH Team led by Dr. Richard Amankwah Kuffour.
Dr. Richard Amankwah Kuffour in a speech stressed the need to have toilet facilities and practice hand washing with soap in the various homes and schools. Participants were educated on the importance of toilet and effective hand washing. They were also taken through how to construct their own Tippy tap, when and how to practice hand washing with soap under running water.
The WaSH team from UEW, Asante-Mampong campus assisted school children to construct Tippy taps for all the schools that attended the occasion at the end of the programme.
