Faculty of Social Sciences Education Presented Awards for Placing 2nd in the Maiden NCCE Inter-University Civic Challenge.

The students of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSSE); History, Political Science and Social Studies Departments of the University of Education, Winneba, came second among sixteen other Universities after a tough quiz climaxed with a Debate on Wednesday, 28th February, 2018 at the University of Ghana School of Law Auditorium.

The team which consisted of twelve contestants from the Faculty were put in the Western/Central Zone and were set for the first quiz on the 9th of October, 2017 at the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) organized the programme under the theme, “Restoring Ghanaian values’’ to enlighten students and the general public on the constitution of Ghana, and to make all citizens ambassadors of the 1992 constitution.

The programme, designed to be in four stages, comprised the Zonal, Super Zonal, Semi- Final and the Grand Finale which was in the form of a debate. UEW made it to the Grand Finale and came second after Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). The topic for the debate was, ‘‘60 years after independence, foreign aid is needless to Ghana’s development.”

The UEW students as a result of their hard work received a cash prize of GHC 1,000, assorted books, copies of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, and four (4) Huawei tablets.

The University Administration also gave the twelve contestants pieces of the UEW cloth which showed their identity during the competition. Also, the Team enjoyed financial as well as moral support from the University throughout the competition.

The Dean of the FSSE, Dr. Seth Peter Frimpong, the Heads of Departments of Political Science Education and History Education as well as the Team,  expressed their profound appreciation to the University for supporting and rendering help in diverse ways during the competition. This was during a ceremony on Friday, 23rd March, 2018, to present the Team to members of the Appointments and Promotion Board (APB) at their sitting at the Council Chamber, UEW North Campus.

The Ag Vice Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful Broni, expressed gratitude to the contestants for raising high, the flag of UEW. The Dean, Centre for International Programmes, Prof Sekyi-Baidoo, on behalf of APB thanked the Team as well as the staff of the FSSE who accompanied the team.
