Finnish Ambassador Visit UEW

The Finland ambassador to the West African sub-region, Mrs. Pirjo Suomela-Chowdhury on December 11, 2016 paid a visit to the University of Education, Winneba to interact with staff and students of the University as part of the operational agreements in the Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Jyvaskyla (JYU) in Finland and the University of Education, Winneba in Ghana.

Mrs. Pirjo Suomela-Chowdhury speaking at the office of the Head of Department of Theatre Arts of the University where she was received, expressed great admiration at the pace at which the University is developing as far as infrastructure is concerned. She commended the management of the University for their Commitment to providing quality education and their contribution to developing the University which she said would have a long term impact on teaching and learning.

She said in 2017, Finland will mark its 100 years of independence and as part of the events marking the celebration, a ceremony will be held in Ghana and facilitators will be selected from the department of theatre arts of Ghana’s University of education in Winneba. As part of the agreement PhD candidates from the University of Education, Winneba will embark on a three to four months educational visit to the University of Jyvaskyla in January 2017.

The head of SACOST, Professor Kolawale Raheem, Dean, Faculty of Science Education, Professor Samuel Asiedu-Addo, the Head of Department of Theatre Arts, Mr. Ernest Kwesi Amposah, a Lecturer in the Department, Mr. Samuel Yirenkyi, UEW PhD candidate on the Erasmus study project in Finland, Ms. Praise Salome Otami, President of GRASSAG, Mr. Stephen Osei Akyiaw and President of the Society of Theatre Arts, Mr. Edudzi David Sallah are the personalities who welcomed the Finnish Ambassador and her team to the University.
