GCB Bank Limited Supports UEW Endowment Trust Fund

The GCB Bank Limited has presented a cheque of GH₵5,000.00 to support the University’s Endowment Trust Fund to the Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

The presentation of the cheque took place on Thursday, 24th June, 2021, at the Council Chamber, North Campus, UEW.

Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni

The Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, at the presentation ceremony, affirmed UEW’s record of being the largest populated and fastest-growing public university in Ghana for the past eight years or so. “We’ve been the largest populated University for about seven/eight years in a roll. This is to the extent that even when in August, 2020, our Kumasi and Mampong campuses got their autonomy, we are still keeping that enviable record.”

Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni specified that of the 20,000/30,000 students who are resident in Winneba, only about 15% have accommodation on campus. He consequently, emboldened GCB Bank Limited to utilise the beautiful golden opportunity to come and start something such as hostels. “This is one area that I would encourage you to look into because this is going to be one of a win-win situation.”

Corporate Relationship Manager, GCB Bank Limited, Ms. Akua Owusua Abora

The Corporate Relationship Manager, GCB Bank Limited, Ms. Akua Owusua Abora, assured UEW of GCB Bank Limited’s good plans to do bigger and better things in the coming year for the former.

“I have had a few discussions with the Finance Officer on the growth of the University and the need for more buildings. UEW happens to be one of the tertiary institutions that GCB really wants to partner. This is because we realise that in this day and era of free senior high school education, enrolment in universities are increasing in great proportions and that aspect of education must also be looked at seriously,” she said.

Ms. Akua Abora iterated GCB Bank Limited’s keenness to support UEW to build more hostels on campus for the comfort of students.

“And if we must take all the universities in this country, the one university we boast of is UEW. So, it is just fair that the bank supports this University to ensure that they come to a level where we can all continue to be proud of,” she stated.

Mr. Francis Obeng

The Finance Officer, UEW, Mr. Francis Obeng, who expressed the University’ gratitude to GCB Bank Limited on behalf of UEW Management, said “this money you have donated to the University is something that is going to support the Endowment Fund of the University. If you look at the Endowment Fund, anytime we activate any expenditure we factor in scholarships for students, research or something else. Just a few banks have responded but we are happy to know that GCB Bank has also responded to our call.”

The Director, Office for Institutional Advancement (OIA), UEW, Dr. Mavis Amo-Mensah, in an interview, revealed her outfit’s continuous follow-ups to ensure that OIA gets some funds into the endowment to support various activities in the University.
