Gender Mainstreaming Directorate Organises Conference for Women Leaders

The Gender Mainstreaming Directorate in partnership with the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) Women’s Commission has organised a day’s conference for women leaders on the theme “Women in Student Leadership: Challenges, Opportunities, Way Forward”.  

The conference, held on Friday, 14th February, 2020 at the School of Creative Arts Conference Room, Central Campus, was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni.

The conference intended to challenge female students’ leaders to aspire for greater heights in life and also to work hard towards distinguishing themselves in their various fields of endeavour.

Speaking on the theme, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang recounted the qualities of a successful leader. He urged participants to be determined in achieving their aspirations in life and charged them to have a long term vision.

Mrs.  Hagar Bampo Addo, Deputy Registrar, UEW in a speech read on behalf of the Registrar, stated that good leaders leave their mark on governance and democracy. Participants were entreated to see themselves as agents of change in their groups (SRC, GRASAG, NUGS) in order to leave an indelible mark. She encouraged them not to get fazed in the face of trivial or even immense challenges they may face in their endeavours.

There were presentations by Prof. (Mrs.) Ruby Hanson, Dr. Beth Offei-Awuku, Dr. Akwasi Amponsah and Dr. Lucy Effeh Attom all lecturers of the University of Education, Winneba. The presentations were respectively on the topics “Assertiveness, Making a Difference, Utilising Opportunities and Challenges of Female Leaders”.

The School of Creative Arts also spiced the occasion with splendid renditions.
