GES Effutu Municipal Directorate Calls on UEW Management
A three-member delegation from the Effutu Municipal Directorate of Ghana Education Service (GES), has today, Friday, 25th September, 2020 paid a courtesy call on Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) to introduce the new Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Mabel Judith Micah to the University.
Mrs. Micah, an alumna of the College of Agriculture Education, Asante Mampong, UEW, has worked extensively in various capacities with the GES in several regions of Ghana until her appointment as the Effutu Municipal Director of Education. She just assumed duty in the Municipality.
Welcoming the Municipal Director, the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni said the University’s doors were always opened to the Municipal Directorate to collaborate and find practical ways to improve upon the quality of basic level education which is unfortunately low, in the University catchment areas.
Touching on some of the existing collaboration between UEW and GES, the Ag. Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang cited the University’s establishment of the Best Teacher Award for deserving teachers in the Municipality during Congregation ceremonies as a way of encouraging teachers to offer their best for pupils in the Municipality.
In her remarks, Mrs. Micah talked about her concerns on pupils’ low performances at the basic education level in the municipality. She indicated that she had begun a series of meetings and discussions with teachers and other stakeholders to come out with innovative ways to improve upon pupils’ performances.
Among other UEW Management members present were the Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima, Esq.; and the Director of Works and Physical Development, Arc. Grace Oppong Peprah.
The Municipal Director was also accompanied by the Deputy Director in Charge of Finance and Administration, Mrs. Rose Abbiw; and the Public Relations Officer, Mr. J. B. K. Ntsiful.
