Governing Council of UEW Inaugurated
The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, today, Thursday, 19th August, 2021, swore in a 14-member Governing Council of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), at the Conference Room of the Ministry of Education, Accra.

The 14 individuals tasked to oversee the affairs of the UEW for the next two years are Nana Ofori Ansah I (Chairman), Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni (Vice-Chancellor), Irene Osei Bonsu Esq. (Government Appointee), Mrs. Abena A. Antwi (Government Appointee), Very Rev. Ama Afo Blay (GES Council), Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa (Director-General of GES) and Mr. Eric Kofi Agbe Carbonu (Representative of Professional Teacher Organisation).
The rest are Prof. Mohammed Salifu (Ghana Tertiary Education Council), Dr. (Mrs.) Beth Offei-Awuku (Convocation), Mr. Eric Sekyi Nketiah (Convocation), Ms. Theresa Ackon (Chairperson of TEWU-UEW), Mr. Enoch Ansah (President of GRASAG-UEW) and Mr. Reuben Brother Dorkenoo (President of SRC).

Addressing the Council at the inauguration, Dr. Osei Adutwum, extolled UEW for the strides that propelled it to become the fastest-growing University in the country. He commended the Management and the previous Council of the University for steering the University towards that enviable direction.
“I commend all those who were part of the Council for the leadership that you have shown, demonstrated in the face of difficulties and challenges, steering the affairs of your institution to greater heights under some very difficult and trying circumstances which I hope we will put behind us in this regime,” he stressed.
The Minister of Education assured the Council of his maximum support. He, however, implored them to put behind all rankles and challenges that had besieged the University in past and to focus on the University’s core mandate of transforming Ghana through education.
“Your University is better placed than many in terms of the critical role that you can play in transforming the affairs of this nation. Consequently, I charge you as the Council to provide that leadership; a leadership that will bring peace and tranquillity to your campus,” he noted.
The Chairman of the Governing Council, in his remarks, pledged the Council’s readiness to do its very best to steer the affairs of UEW to new heights of academic excellence and greatness.

“As a Governing Council, we will work diligently to sustain the mandate of UEW guided at all times by relevant provisions of the laws and regulations governing UEW and related educational policies and guidelines,” he promised.
Among the staff of the University present at the event were the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang; Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima Esq.; Principal, College of Languages Education, Ajumako Campus, Prof. Dominic K. Danso Mensah; Finance Officer, Mr. Francis Obeng; and Deputy Registrar, Division of Operations, Mr. Alexander W. Essah.
