Scholarship Beneficiaries Spurred on to make Benefactors Proud

29 beneficiaries of the Pent Scholarship and Vodafone Ghana Foundation Scholarship from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) have been spurred on to make worthy profits of the scholarships and to focus on their books to make themselves and the benefactors proud.

This advice was given at the Registrar’s Conference Room, North Campus, Winneba during an interaction session organised by the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate, UEW.

The purpose of the meeting was to interact with the beneficiaries concerning the successes and challenges faced since they obtained the scholarship and to encourage the beneficiaries to study hard and further their studies after their first degree.

The interaction also saw lecturers from various Departments of UEW sharing their personal life experiences with the beneficiaries.

A lecturer at the Centre for African Studies, Dr. Richard Agyapong exhorted the beneficiaries to be confident in their ability to excel in their academics and give out their best to achieve greater heights.

The Head, Department of Social Studies Education, Dr. Lucy Effeh Attom, enlightened the students on the need to identify their strengths and weaknesses. “Identifying your strengths and weaknesses will help you to know the times that are favourable for your studies so that you can use the time available to you judiciously”. She hinted.

Ms. Jacqueline Ogoe from the Department of Home Economics Education advised them to prioritise healthy habits and lifestyles that will make them healthy for their studies in order to continue enjoying the scholarships.

The Head, Gender Mainstreaming Directorate, Ms. Eva Annan and the beneficiaries expressed sincere gratitude to the benefactors for the support, recounting the tremendous help that the scholarships had offered them in their pursuit of higher education.

The Vodafone Ghana Foundation Scholarship gives female students who have good academic grades but financially constrained the opportunity to study Science, Information Communication and Technology (ICT), and Mathematics courses whereas, the Pent Scholarship gives both male and female students with good academic grades but low financial or economic resources the opportunity to study Business, ICT, Science and Humanities courses.

Also present at the meeting was an Administrator at the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate, Ms. Ophelia Brakatu; Mr. Prince Marfo Owusu and Ms. Priscilla Dadey both National Service Persons at the Directorate.
