School of Business Achieves Another Milestone for UEW
Another academic milestone has been achieved by the School of Business, University of Education, Winneba (UEW) at the second edition of the Tertiary Business Sense Challenge organised by Graphic Business in partnership with the Ministry of Business Development and the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana.
The UEW School of Business placed fourth out of 19 participating institutions across the country. The Business School eliminated well known institutions such as University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and African University College of Communications (AUCC) at various stages of the competition. The UEW team was beaten in the semi-finals by the eventual winners, University of Development Studies (UDS).
The contest was to test the business knowledge of tertiary students and how they could apply what they learn in school to real life experiences.
On Wednesday, 11th March, 2020, the team paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni to report on its performances at the competition.
The Dean, School of Business, Dr. Braimah Awaisu Imurana leading the team to the Vice-Chancellor expressed the team’s heartfelt appreciation to Management for the immense support offered and enabled them to perform better than they did in the first edition of the competition. He assured the Vice-Chancellor of concrete measures to be put in place to ensure that UEW wins the third edition.

The Vice-Chancellor, who was impressed by the team’s performance, charged the Dean to ensure that the contestants further their education in UEW to become future leaders of their alma mater. “Let us put in place systems that will support them so that there is almost an automatic assurance of employment immediately upon graduation.”

The contestants that made UEW proud were the captain of the team and a level 400 Accounting Student, Celestine Esi Adzayi; level 400 Accounting Student, Samuel Mawunyo Sovor; and level 300 Accounting Student, Richmond Adu Addo. The reserve/research team consisted of Seth Ashigbui (level 300 Accounting), Belinda Ohenewaa Asare (level 400 Banking and Finance), Marcus Obuadey Tetteh (level 200 Accounting) and Rebecca Baah (level 200 Procurement and Chain Management). They were coached Mr. Samuel Gameli Gadzo and assisted by former contestant for UEW, Aaron Owusu Ansah.
Among University staff present were the Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Ernest Akwasi Amponsah; Vice-Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. Juliana Daniels; Head, Department of Procurement and Chain Management, Dr. Mawuko Dza; Senior Lecturer, Mr. Alhassan Bawa; Head, University Relations Office and Media, Ms. Obaapanin Adu Oforiwaa and Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ernest Edu Azutigah.
