Seven-Member UEW Unity, Reconciliation and Inclusion Committee Inaugurated
Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has inaugurated a seven-member Unity, Reconciliation and Inclusion Committee with the mandate to initiate the process of healing.
The Committee, unveiled on Tuesday, 1st February, 2022, at the Council Chamber of UEW, comprised Prof. Francis Owusu Mensah (Chairman), Dr. Charlotte Fofo Lomotey, Mrs. Esther Yeboah Danso-Wiredu (PhD), Dr. Anselm Komla Abotsi, Dr. Richardson Addai-Munumkum, Dr. Regina Oforiwaa Caesar and Dr. (Mrs.) Patricia Ananga (Secretary).
The Committee tasked with receiving and reviewing petitions and making recommendations to bring lasting peace to the University, would review petitions directed to the offices of the UEW Council Chairman and the Ag. Vice-Chancellor on issues from July 2017 to September 2021. The Committee is expected to submit its report to the Ag. Vice-Chancellor of the University on Monday, February 28th, 2022.
The Committee would operate by receiving petitions under five thematic areas consisting of transfers, promotions, appointments, suspensions and demotions/dismissals/termination of appointment.
The terms of reference for the Committee members include granting audience to various petitioners when necessary; conducting its business with the ultimate aim of healing and reconciling the University community; making recommendations to the Ag. Vice-Chancellor on the petitions received; and submitting a report on the processes to the Ag. Vice-Chancellor for his attention and action.
The Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang, in addressing members of the Committee, indicated Management’s determination to support the Committee to ensure objectivity to all sides. “We want them to be a listening Committee and be progressive with their recommendations. At the end of the day, we want unity, healing and reconciliation at this University.”
The Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima Esq., was pleased that the Committee had accepted the responsibility to undertake the assignment to ensure the maintenance of unity, reconciliation and inclusion at the University.
He urged members of the Committee to be strong in their minds and in their conviction to uphold the Act, Statutes and regulations of the University which can lead to healing.
The Ag. Principal, College of Distance and e-Learning, Prof. Francis Owusu Mensah, speaking on behalf of the Committee, expressed gratitude to UEW Management for considering them worthy of membership on the all-important Committee.
“We believe that the success of this committee is going to open a new chapter in the history of the University and keep it onto the path of progress and academic excellence. The committee finally promises to work objectively in the supreme interest of the University community, we cannot afford to fail the University in this crucial moment,” he averred.
