UEW Council Chair Inducts Eight-Member Vice-Chancellor Search Committee
The Chairman of the Governing Council, University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Prof. Obeng Mireku, has sworn in an eight-member Search Committee set up by the University Governing Council to search for a suitable candidate to occupy the position of Vice-Chancellor.
The industrious current Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni will be retiring at the end of September this year thereby, making the position vacant from 1st October, 2021.

The short ceremony took place yesterday, Wednesday, 5th May, 2021, at the Fiesta Royale Hotel, Accra-Ghana.
The members of the Committee selected based on the provisions of the Statutes of the University (Statutes 2020), are Prof. Philip Ebow Bondzi-Simpson (Chairman), Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Adow Obeng, Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, Ms. Irene Osei Bonsu, Esq., Prof. Mohammed Salifu, Prof. George Kankam, Prof. Francis Owusu-Mensah and Surv. Paul Osei-Barima, Esq. (Secretary).
Addressing members of the Committee, the Council Chairman, said: “as indicated in the appointment letter, we are expectant that the Committee will conduct a background search on the applicants and examine their social comportment and general competence as deemed fit for the position”.

He charged the Committee to interact with representatives of staff and students to find out the work and social cultures of the University to help them determine the type of personality the institution needs as Vice-Chancellor.
“Invite and conduct interviews for applicants following the University’s criteria as indicated in the advertisement at a convenient place to be determined by the Committee; and submit its report to the Governing Council on or before 30th July, 2021,” he told the members.
Prof. Mireku expressed the Governing Council’s confidence in the collective capability and sagacity of the Committee to select the best candidate to occupy the Vice-Chancellor’s position in UEW. “I hereby proclaim the marching orders and commission you to hit the ground running.”
The Chairman for the Search Committee, Prof. Bondzi-Simpson, in his acceptance remarks, assured the UEW Council Chair of bringing their collective experiences, viewpoints and everything to bear in carrying out the mandate assigned to them.

“We shall adhere to your terms of reference; we shall adhere to your timelines in both cases, God willing and God being our helper. We appreciate very fully the significance of the input of the assignment you have given to us and on behalf of the Committee, we believe that we will carry out this mandate in the manner that your Council and your Institution will find best,” Prof. Bondzi-Simpson stated.
The Registrar, UEW, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima Esq., who is secretary to the Committee, on his part, pointed out that “whatever resources are required to make this Committee work successfully will be made available”.
