UEW Holds Maiden Virtual Congregation Successfully

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has today, Thursday, 10^th September, 2020, successfully held its maiden first session of the 25^th Congregation by virtual mode.

The ceremony being the first of its kind blew people’s mind with a colourful stage setup, powerful lighting systems, innovative artworks and excellent deployment of technology under the direction of the planning committee. 

Obvious constraints presented by COVID-19 informed the University to go the virtual mode. The programme streamed live on the University’s website, Facebook and YouTube official handles, was watched by 23,029 people. There were 13,800 views on Facebook and 9,229 views on YouTube.

The two-day ceremony would graduate a total of 12,716 students. Out of the total figure, 935 students representing 7% would be awarded Diplomas, 10,195 students representing 80% would be awarded First Degrees while 1,586 students representing 13% would be awarded various Postgraduate Degrees. Overall, male graduands constitute 8,531 representing 67% while the females make up 4,185 representing 33%.

Today, 10^th September, 2020, being the first day of the 25^th Congregation, a total of 8,029 students from Faculties of Educational Studies, Foreign Languages Education and Communication, Ghanaian Languages Education, Science Education, Social Science Education and Schools of Business Education, Creative Arts and Graduate Studies were presented with Diploma, First Degrees and Postgraduate Degrees.

Tomorrow, 11^th September, 2020, a total of 4,761 students would receive First Degrees and various Postgraduate Degrees from the Faculties of Agriculture Education, Science and Environment Education, Education and Communication Sciences, Business Education, Technical Education and Vocational Education from the Kumasi and Asante-Mampong Campuses

The Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni urged graduands to serve with honesty, dedication, passion and patriotism wherever they find themselves and live true to the University’s motto: Education for Service as they proceed from UEW to work in the teaching and other fields across societies in the world.

Prof. Obeng Mireku

The Chairman of the UEW Governing Council, Prof. Obeng Mireku appealed to Government to support UEW realise its intent to build a modern Library Complex to provide learning support and research among students and faculty.  

“This would be the best support for the expanded access for university education for all qualified Ghanaian students. We would be most grateful if Government could build this Library for us. The University of Education, Winneba undoubtedly continues to remain focused on its mandate to be the leading teacher training University in Ghana and across Sub-Saharan Africa,” he reiterated.
