UEW Management Introduces Interim Vice-Chancellor to Effutu Omanhene
Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), has today, Tuesday, 5th October, 2021, paid a courtesy call on the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Council, Neenyi Ghartey VII, to introduce to him, the interim Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang.
Management, per the customs of the Ghanaian culture, ought to introduce the Ag. Vice-Chancellor to the Effutu Omanhene first before other stakeholder institutions of the University hence, the visit to the Simpa Palace today.

The Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima Esq., who introduced Prof. Ofori-Birikorang as the interim Vice-Chancellor of UEW to Neenyi Ghartey VII and his Entourage, revealed that Management of the University wanted to pay the courtesy call on Friday, 1st October, the day Prof. Ofori-Birikorang, assumed duty but the visit could not come to fruition due to busy schedules of Neenyi Ghartey VII who was out of Winneba at the time.
“We are here due to a change in the leadership of UEW. The then Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni retired on 30th September, 2021. Thus, from 1st October, 2021, to the time the Governing Council of the University appoints a substantive Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ofori-Birikorang will be acting as Vice-Chancellor.

“As tradition and custom stipulate, we don’t light a lamp and then put it under a table. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.
“Once you work in a community, you should know that the community has a leader, therefore, the essence of our visit today is to introduce to you, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor of UEW. We also request for your support and protection both spiritually and physically,” the Registrar said.

Prof. Ofori-Birikorang, on his part, thanked Neenyi Ghartey VII for opening his door to him and the University Management with a warm welcome. He pointed out the excellent working relationships between himself and the Effutu Omanhene.
He assured Neenyi Ghartey VII and his Entourage of the continuation with the great works of his predecessor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Afful-Broni, until a permanent Vice-Chancellor is appointed. The Ag. Vice-Chancellor, therefore, implored Neenyi Ghartey VII for his blessings, support, encouragement and advice to enable him to replicate the successes of his predecessor and even do more.

Neenyi Ghartey VII, in his remarks, indicated his inclination to put the interest of Effutu indigenes first in every decision he takes for the community. He declared his conscientious support for the Ag. Vice-Chancellor and his Management team to benefit all and sundry.
Neenyi Ghartey VII congratulated Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang on his appointment and called for unity, reconciliation and collaboration to continue revamping the image of UEW.
The immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, retired at the end of September this year, making the position vacant from 1st October, 2021. Under Section 14 (2)(b) of the UEW Act, 2004 (Act 672) and Statute (10)(21) of UEW Statutes (2020), the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang, was notified to act as Vice-Chancellor of the University until a substantive Vice-Chancellor is appointed.
