UEW Matriculates Distance Education Students for 2017/2018 Academic Year
The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has held matriculation ceremonies for the 2017/2018 Distance Education students for all the Study Centres at all their various matriculation venues; Winneba, Kumasi, Ho and Tamale.
Some Southern Sector students had theirs at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, Winneba whereas students from Asante Mampong and Kumasi also had their matriculation at the Ceremonial Grounds at Kumasi Campus. Students who stay at far places also had their matriculation at Ho and Tamale.
The Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni welcomed the students on behalf of the University’s Council and the Academic Board. He commended them on their decision to acquire higher educational level through the Distance Education mode at UEW.
In his speech, he encouraged them to be of good behaviour towards their authorities in the University. He took them through the admission statistics of the various Distance Education programmes offered in UEW.
“At the close of admissions for the 2017/2018 academic year, a total of 10, 745 applications were received for various undergraduate Distance Education programmes. Out of this number, 8,935 were offered admission comprising 4,042 males (representing 45%) and 4,893 females (representing 55%). At the close of registration, a total of 7,051 Fresh Students had registered for the various Distance Education Programmes comprising 3,014 males (representing 43%) and 4,037 females (representing 57%).
“A total of 695 applications were received for Postgraduate Distance Education Programmes. Out of this number, 605 were admitted. At the close of registration, 391 of the admitted applicants, comprising 240 males (representing 61%) and 151 females (representing 39%) had registered.
“At the close of registration, a total of 473 admitted applicants had registered for the Technical and Vocational Education Programmes (TVET) comprising 211 males (representing 45%) and 262 females (representing 55%). Another 1,426 and 2,813 students would be matriculated on the 25th and 27th January, 2018 in Tamale and Kumasi respectively. On Monday, January 15, 2018 a total of 614 students were matriculated at Ho.” He affirmed.
Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni urged the students to learn to manage their time wisely by prioritising all their activities. He advised them to minimize the amount of time they spend on social media and social gatherings.
He said that the results they would attain were directly attributed to the efforts they would put into their studies.
The Ag. Vice-Chancellor informed the students about the additional venues for Orientation and Matriculation; Ho and Tamale. He said that those venues had been created in a bid to reduce travelling times and make it easier for students to fully participate in those important activities with little stress as possible.
He said that there was hope to increase the number of venues for such ceremonies to make it more convenient for the students.
Again, he told them to always seek assistance from their designated counsellors at their various study centres when they have challenges in their course.
He assured them that, management would also continue to strive to ensure that, anything that was needed to make their studies a success would be available to them in good quality.
The Ag. Vice-Chancellor concluded by urging the students to adopt positive attitudes towards their studies. He also urged them to acknowledge rules and regulations contained in their handbook.
