UEW Service Persons Charged to make Impact on Their jobs

2018 National Service Personnel (NSP) posted to the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) have been charged to make impact on the jobs they do. They were admonished to be passionate about the job and tasked to sacrifice now to position themselves in future.

The admonition was made on Wednesday, 17^th October, 2018 during an orientation programme for NSP held at the Jophus Anamuah-Mensah Conference Centre, North Campus, Winneba.

The orientation, organised by the Division of Human Resource – Winneba saw presentations from Senior Assistant Registrars, Mrs. Irene-Michelle Ofosu-Behome; Mr. Isaac Yaw Manu and Mr. Charles Denkyi.

In his Welcome Address, Deputy Registrar, Division of Operations, Mr. Alexander Essah who chaired the occasion on behalf of the Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei-Barimah Esq.  noted that national service is the beginning of a person’s journey into the world of work. He urged the Service Persons to be serious with their work, adapt good work ethics and eschew vices such as laziness and gossiping at work since the attitude they exhibit at work today would have a great impact on their future development.

In her Presentation on the topic “Settling in for Work at UEW”, Mrs. Irene-Michelle Ofosu-Behome introduced participants to the “General rules regarding work at UEW, Guidelines for job performance and behaviour, Line of communication in various offices, Facilities available to service personnel and Allowance payment”.

She stated that UEW supports NSP with rent allowance during the service period and also provide confidential report at the end of the service. She said “the skills you acquire today and the people you meet are what will open doors for you. Read through files and learn how to write administrative letters; ask your superiors questions relating to the work you are doing”.

Mr. Isaac Manu presented on “UEW Environment and its Hierarchical Structure”. He advised Service Persons to always follow the line of communication to avoid unnecessary delays in arriving at decision. He explained that could put undue pressure on top Managers, leading to referrals of requests and embarrassment. 

Mr. Charles Denkyi who took the Service Persons through “The Role of the National Service Personnel” stressed that national service is a civic responsibility of every graduate.  He admonished them to assist their superiors and execute assigned duties on time to avoid being reprimanded.  

The orientation was moderated by Chief Administrative Assistant, Mr. Isaac Darkoh. The NSP made lots of contributions during the open forum. Attendance was impressive with 294 NSP out of 308 service persons posted to UEW.
