UEW Expands Infrastructure for Staff and Students Well-being

Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has cut sod for the construction of a Food Court (eatery) and has also commissioned two projects all at the University’s North Campus in Winneba. The two projects commissioned were Clothing Production Unit Block and Food Production Unit Restaurant. 

This is in fulfillment of Management’s dedication to improve infrastructure and provide a serene environment for efficient academic work as well as a conducive place of eating for the well-being of staff and students.

The 170 capacity eatery will have ten stalls, snack shop, service yard, stationery shop, outdoor eating space and two storage spaces. The project is being funded with Internally Generated Funds (IGF) at the cost of GH¢ 1,044,078.87. It is expected to be completed in six months from the date of commencement.

The Clothing Production Unit will offer sewing and embroidery services for the production of items such as academic gowns, choir robes, corporate uniforms, classic shirts, African wear, among others, to the University Community and the general public. The Unit consists of two offices for the Coordinator and Administrator, common room for workers, fitting and store rooms, sewing, cutting, ironing/pressing and embroidery sections.

The Food Production Unit Restaurant has a seating capacity of 150, well-furnished and with a relaxing atmosphere at the ground floor. It also has a VVIP section and a storage facility on the first floor of the restaurant. They serve a variety of local and continental dishes like pizzas, sea foods, salads, beef food, sandwiches, potato chips, pastries and drinks.

Honourable Kwamena Duncan, the Central Regional Minister, who was the Special Guest of Honour commended the Management of UEW for the giant step taken to improve on the welfare of staff and students. He encouraged the senior members and staff of the University to continue supporting the Vice-Chancellor and his team to ensure that there is absolute calm on the Winneba Campus.

The Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni was delighted that some of the dreams of management for the University were coming fruition.

Among the University staff present were the Ag. Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. James Kagya-Agyemang; Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima Esq.; Ag. Finance Officer, Mr. Bruno Chirani; University Chaplain, Rev. Dr. Alexander Edwards; University Librarian, Mr. Viscount Buer; Ag. Director, Physical Works and Development, Arc. Kwame Danso; Deans, Heads of Department, other staff and the Student Leadership.
