I am currently a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science and Head, Department of Political Science Education of the Faculty of Social Sciences Education (May 2022-to date). I served as Head, Centre for African Studies (2020-2022), Vice Dean of the Centre for International Programmes (2018-2020) and Head of Department of Political Science (2015-2017). I studied and obtained a PhD in Politics and International Studies from the University of Leeds (UK), a Masters Degree in Development Studies from Erasmus University Rotterdam (Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, Netherlands), BA (Hons) in Religions and Sociology from the University of Ghana, and recently completed an LLB Law Degree at GIMPA/Kaaf University College, Accra (2021). I previously worked as a Lecturer at the University for Development Studies in Ghana, as a Socio-Economic Development Officer, Project Consultant and Project Officer for various organisations from 2000 to 2013. My current research focuses on natural resource extraction and environment, social policy, education, informal sector, income security, governance, rule of law and accountability.

Development initiatives focused on illegal artisanal and
small-scale mining (ASM) typically assume that formalisation
will address environmental degradation and poverty.
But there is little research on legal small-scale miners'
(SSMs) perceptions of their environmental impacts, or on
demographic characteristics that should inform development
programmes. Based on a survey of 137 legal SSMs,
this study analysed the perceptions and practices of legal
SSMs within the context of an accountability, rule of law

School Selection and Local Food Production in Ghana’s School Feeding Programme

School feeding programmes have been touted to improve school enrolment and physical development of children in poorer communities, but discussions on school selection criteria and linkages to local food production have been very minimal. This article discusses school selection and local food production under Ghana’s feeding programme. Findings show that school selection has been very problematic, motivated largely by political patronage and financial gain, and not by the stated criteria of poverty and low enrolment.

The exercise of eminent domain by the State to undertake compulsory acquisition of property for public benefit was used by the British colonial administration to secure lands for public infrastructure such as roads, streets, public service institutions and others. The post-independent governments assumed this power and applied it to acquire lands and properties for public purpose or benefit from the 1960s to date.

The Covid-19 pandemic has provided a stern test of preparedness of states to respond to
the unexpected, and has forced a rethink of emergency and welfare systems previously
thought unassailable. Ironically, nations that consider themselves to have the most robust
systems have seen the most devastating impact. Most developing nations have been spared
the worst, but not necessarily because they were better prepared or due to the existence of
